Why is it that some people seem to sail through life no matter what is thrown at them? They are able to bounce back after a crisis and have an ability to deal with stressful situations better than others. We often refer to these people as being very resilient. Research has shown that while some people seem to be more resilience naturally, these behaviours can be learned.

Whether you’re going through a tough time now or you want to be prepared for the next one I have found that the following techniques has helped me develop my resilience to the ups and downs of my busy and often very unpredictable life.

Believe in yourself — remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments, be confident in your own abilities to respond and deal with stressful situations.

Build strong relationships — who can provide care and support to you, while talking about a situation will not make your problem go away. It will allow you to get support, feel cared for and maybe see a new perspective.

Embrace Change — which is an inevitable part of our lives, focus on the positives aspects change can bring.

Pick yourself up — Don’t let knockbacks and failures be a reason to give up but rather see them as an opportunity to learn.

Life is busy and can throw us curve balls when we are least expect it, by developing the traits of resilience, it can help us not only survive change but learn, grow, and thrive in it.
